How the Tesla referral program works in France
Short version: an owner shares their link, you click it before ordering, and Tesla automatically adds the benefit (2,000 km of Supercharging or €250). No code to retype, no sign-up. Here's the detail.
Link or code: it's the same thing
Tesla does not use a classic promo code you type into a box. The “referral link” is simply the referrer's code wrapped in a URL (e.g. ts.la/<code>). Clicking the link pre-applies the code — automatically.
The 3 steps
- Click the referral link. The link (ts.la/code or tesla.com/fr_fr/referral/…) opens Tesla's official store with the benefit attached.
- Configure and order. Pick your Model 3 or Model Y and options; the benefit follows your session.
- Check the summary. The “Referral” line shows before payment. If it's missing, don't confirm: start over by clicking the link first.
When the benefit applies
The benefit must be attached before payment — it shows in the order summary. It is non-retroactive: it can't be added once the order is placed. One referral per order.

For the referrer
The owner who refers you earns €250 in Tesla Credits or 2,000 km of Supercharging per referral, capped at 10 per year, valid ~12 months. They find their link in the Tesla app → profile → Referrals.
Who actually qualifies, on the buyer's side
The part most pages skip: the programme targets first purchases. It exists to bring new customers to Tesla, which has two practical consequences. If you already own a qualifying Tesla, don't assume the same terms apply to a second purchase — check before you count on it. And eligibility depends on the model as much as on you.

The consequence worth remembering: on an ineligible order the link is accepted without any error message and the benefit simply never gets created. A link being accepted is not confirmation of anything.
Does it work on an inventory car?
Common question, reassuring answer: yes, a Model 3 or Model Y taken from existing stock gets the same referral benefit as a custom order. It's often the better combination, since delivery is faster and some inventory cars are discounted — the discount and the referral stack, because they're independent mechanisms.
The trap is elsewhere. The inventory purchase flow is shorter: fewer screens sit between you and payment, so there are fewer chances to notice you forgot to open the link. Open it before you click into the vehicle listing, not after.
What happens after you order
Most of the worry at this stage is misplaced, because people look for the benefit in the wrong place at the wrong time. The real sequence:
- At order time — the “referral” line appears in the summary. That is your only proof, and the only moment a mistake is still fixable.
- Between order and delivery — nothing happens, and that's normal. Don't read an empty Tesla account as a failure.
- At delivery — this is when the benefit is actually credited. Supercharging kilometres appear on the account tied to the car.
- For roughly 12 months after that — the validity window. Unused kilometres do eventually expire; this is not a balance you hold forever.
What the referral does not do
Worth stating plainly, because three false expectations circulate widely.
- It doesn't reduce the price of the car. Your summary total won't change. Anyone watching the total instead of the referral line concludes the code failed when it worked.
- It doesn't affect your place in the queue — in either direction. Your delivery date doesn't move because you used a link.
- It doesn't touch the bonus écologique. The two schemes ignore each other. Using a referral doesn't reduce your bonus, and the reverse holds too — see the eco bonus, which is worth far more to your budget.
The mistakes that cost people the benefit
- Forgetting to click the link before configuring — mistake number one, benefit gone.
- Believing the “3 months of free FSD” claim: that is the US programme, not France.
- Waiting for “€500 + 1,000 km”: there is no stacking, and 1,000 km is the figure from before 30 April 2026. The current benefit is roughly 2,000 km or a reduction — one or the other, never both.
