Tesla owner? The referrer's guide, without the empty promises
Every referral delivered through your link earns you a Tesla reward. What almost nobody explains is when it lands, how long it stays valid, and the three cases where it never gets created at all. That's what this page is for.

Open the Tesla app → your profile → Referrals. You'll find your personal link (often ts.la/<name>) and your referral tracking.
What you earn
- One Tesla reward per delivered referral: in Europe it takes the form of ~2,000 km of Supercharging (the same as the buyer's since the 30 April 2026 increase) or Tesla Credits usable on service, accessories and charging. A specific euro amount circulates widely — usually carried over from the US program — but we have not confirmed it at primary source for France: trust what your own Tesla account shows.

Most English-language advice on being a Tesla referrer describes the American program, and the two differ in the one respect that matters to you. In the United States a referrer earns a dollar-denominated Tesla Credit. In Europe — France included — the referrer receives the same reward the buyer does, which since the 30 April 2026 increase means roughly 2,000 km of Supercharging rather than a cash-equivalent credit.
That single difference invalidates a lot of otherwise sensible English guidance. If a page tells you to compare your credit balance against the price of an accessory in dollars, or quotes a per-referral figure in USD, it is describing a program you are not in.
What that means in practice for a France-based referrer
- Your reward is energy, not money. Its value therefore depends on where you charge. France has comparatively cheap Supercharging by European standards, which means the same kilometres are worth less here in euros than they would be to a German or Norwegian referrer — and rather more than to a Dutch one.
- It has a shelf life. Rewards in this program are documented as expiring around 12 months after they are granted, and the grant happens when your referral's car is delivered, not when they order. In France that gap is routinely several weeks.
- You can't convert it into the bonus. The bonus écologique is a state scheme with its own eligibility, and nothing you earn as a referrer interacts with it. If your referral is asking you which matters more, the honest answer is the bonus, by a wide margin.
The eligibility question English-speaking owners ask most
"Can I refer someone buying any Tesla?" In France, no — and the answer has changed recently enough that stale pages get it wrong. Only the Model 3 and Model Y participate. Model S and Model X were removed from the programme, and the Cybertruck is not sold here at all. A referral link used on a non-participating order is accepted without error and simply produces nothing, for either of you.
The second most common question is whether a referral counts if the buyer cancels. It doesn't: because the reward is granted at delivery, an order that never becomes a car never becomes a reward either.
How to share it, briefly
One message, to one person who is about to order, containing the link and one line of explanation — that it costs them nothing, that you receive a reward for it, and that they must open the link before configuring. Only the last point is genuinely useful to them, and it is the one that decides whether any of this works.
Avoid posting your link in community discussions. The major Tesla forums restrict codes to a designated profile field precisely because people once posted for no reason other than visibility, and unsolicited codes now read as spam regardless of the local rules. And never claim your code is worth more than someone else's: every valid link opens the identical benefit, so the claim is both false and easy to check.
Two things the referrer's side genuinely can't tell you
The buyer has a screen that confirms everything: the order summary either shows the benefit before payment or it doesn't. The referrer has no equivalent, and it's worth knowing what that means before you rely on the reward for anything.
The annual cap and the delivery date sit awkwardly together. The reward is granted when the car is delivered, and the cap is expressed per year — but Tesla's own terms don't state which of the two dates the counter uses. An order placed in late December and delivered in January could plausibly land against either year. In practice that only matters if you're close to the cap, and if you are, the safe move is to treat the delivery date as the one that counts rather than assume the more convenient reading. We aren't going to fill that gap with a guess.
Nothing tells you a referral is in progress. Between someone opening your link and their car arriving, there is no confirmation, no pending state, no notification. The reward simply appears afterwards, or doesn't. So keep your own record: who you sent the link to, and roughly when. If a reward never lands, that note is the only thing that lets you ask a specific question instead of a vague one — and a specific question is the only kind that gets answered.
