Tesla referral + 2026 eco bonus: the worked example

A dated stacking example on a Model Y: eco bonus up to €5,700, a European-battery top-up, then 2,000 km of Supercharging via the referral.

The case: a Model Y RWD (Berlin)

Take a Model Y RWD, built in Berlin, eligible for the bonus écologique, for a buyer whose reference tax income (RFR) is below €16,301.

The maths, line by line

• Eco bonus: up to €5,700 deducted at order.
• European-battery top-up: where eligible, +€1,200 to €2,000.
• Referral: 2,000 km of Supercharging (or €250) added on top.

Because the two schemes are independent, they genuinely add up. The bonus lowers the price; the referral adds kilometres (or a discount) on top.

Same car, four buyers, four different totals

A single worked example gives a false impression of precision. The bonus écologique depends on your reference tax income, not on the car — so four people ordering the identical Model Y RWD on the same day walk away with very different amounts. The variation is the useful information here, not the most favourable case.

Two readings of that table, and the second is the more useful one.

• The referral is the only line that never moves. Whatever your income, whatever the trim, it is identical. That's its virtue — it's predictable where everything else varies. It's also its limit: it is by far the smallest column.
• The gap between the first and last rows exceeds €7 700. Two neighbours can order the same car on the same day and pay thousands of euros apart. The code isn't what creates that difference — your income band and the "Performance" checkbox are.

What the example doesn't tell you

Three caveats a single figure always hides, and which belong in any budget:

1. The battery top-up isn't automatic. It depends on the battery origin of your specific car, not on the model in general. Don't add it in by default.
2. The scale is annual. Amounts and income thresholds are revised, and eligibility is generally assessed at delivery. A delivery slipping across the new year can therefore move you to a different row — in either direction.
3. The ~2,000 km is not a euro amount. It's worth the electricity it displaces, which depends on your real consumption and your tariff. Converting it into euros to add onto the bonus produces a "total" that is more impressive than it is honest.
