Tesla referral link or code: what's the difference?

A referral link is just the code wrapped in a URL. We clear up the confusion, and what it actually means when you order.

The short answer

A referral link (ts.la/<code> or tesla.com/fr_fr/referral/<user>) already contains the referrer's code. Clicking the link = applying the code. So there's nothing to choose between: it's the same benefit.

Why the confusion exists

Many people look for “a code to paste”, like a classic promo code. But Tesla has no “promo code” field to fill in yourself: the benefit attaches through the link you click before configuring. The “code” is only visible because it's embedded in the link.

In practice

  • You're given a link: click it, then configure.
  • You're given a bare code: add it to ts.la/ to form the link, then click.

Either way, check the “Referral” line in the summary. Details in how it works.
