A busy year for Tesla buyers in France

Between 1 January and July 2026, several rules changed for anyone ordering a Tesla in France with a referral link: aid disappeared, a model left the program, and FSD changed status. None of it touches the referral benefit itself — but all of it changes the real total you can expect to save. Here is what actually moved, in order, with exact dates and sources.

1 January 2026: two forms of aid disappear

• Tesla's €3 100 maker's discount on the Model 3 ended on 1 January 2026.
• The scrappage grant (prime à la conversion, for trading in an older vehicle) was abolished the same day.

Both vanished on the same date, which mechanically lowered the total aid available to a Model 3 buyer — even though the referral benefit itself didn't move.

March 2026: Model S and Model X leave the program

Model S and Model X were removed from the French referral program in March 2026. Neither model is sold new in France any more: there's no referral link to apply to them today, whatever some un-updated pages might still say.

April–May 2026: FSD changes status

• 10 April 2026 — first European type-approval for supervised driving (FSD), in the Netherlands.
• 14 February 2026 — outright FSD purchase ends for new customers; subscription only from here on.
• 22 May 2026 — the FSD subscription launches in France at €99/month (€49/month for Enhanced Autopilot owners).

None of this touches the referral: FSD stays a separate subscription, never a “referral bonus” like in the US. Full detail in our FSD post.

What hasn't changed

• The Model 3 / Model Y referral benefit stays 2,000 km of Supercharging or €250, as an alternative, never stacked.

Correction: the purchase aid did change, and it changed shape

An earlier version of this page listed the eco-bonus scale under "what hasn't changed". That was wrong, and it was the most misleading line here — because it asserted stability about the one item that changed structurally rather than numerically.

Since 1 July 2025 the purchase aid is no longer the state-funded bonus écologique. It is a "coup de pouce véhicules particuliers électriques", financed through energy-savings certificates and paid by companies that signed a commitment charter. And the official service-public.gouv.fr page for it publishes no amount table: it says the amount varies with income and directs applicants to compare the signatory companies' offers.

So the widely-quoted €5 700 / €4 700 / €3 500 tiers are indicative orders of magnitude, not a scale you are entitled to. What the regulation does fix, and what we now quote instead: a purchase price ≤ €47,000 including VAT, a mass under 2,400 kg, an éco-score of at least 60 points with the vehicle on ADEME's published list, a European-battery supplement (since 1 October 2025) requiring both assembly and battery production in the EEA, and no cumulation with the bonus écologique.

What the year actually demonstrates

Read the timeline again with that correction in place and a pattern appears that the page was groping toward. Every element around the referral moved in 2026 — a maker's discount ended, a scrappage grant was abolished, two models left the programme, FSD's purchase route closed and reopened as a subscription, and the purchase aid changed its funding mechanism and stopped publishing a scale.

The referral benefit did not move. That is not a claim about its size — it is the smallest number in any of these comparisons — but about its shape:

• No budget to exhaust, so it cannot close mid-year the way a funded scheme can.
• No income test, so its value doesn't depend on your tax position.
• No application, so nothing can be filed late or refused.
• No provider to compare, so there is no version of it that pays more elsewhere.

The practical lesson for a 2026 budget is therefore about which lines to trust: build the plan on the one that has held still, treat everything above it as revisable until the day you order, and verify each revisable line at its own source rather than on a page like this one — including this one.
