Two schemes, one order

The Tesla referral and the bonus écologique are two entirely independent schemes that, for an eligible model, genuinely stack. The issue isn't whether they're compatible — it's the order you need to handle them in. Here's the full checklist, step by step.

Before you configure: 3 checks

1. Is your model eco-bonus eligible? Only the Model Y in RWD or Long Range RWD trim (built in Berlin) is; the Model 3 (Shanghai) never is. Detail on our eco-bonus page.
2. Your reference tax income, to size the bonus — up to €5 700 under €16,301, €4 700 between €16,301 and €26,300, €3 500 above that.
3. A referral link ready to click — your own, a friend's, or a randomly-rotated one like this page's.

While configuring

1. Click the referral link first, before any configuration.
2. Pick the exact trim: for the bonus, price must stay under €47 000 and weight under 2400 kg.
3. The eco bonus never shows up in Tesla's own configurator: it's claimed separately, after the order, from France's payment agency (ASP). Don't expect it on the same line as the referral.

In the summary, before you pay

At this stage, only check the “Referral” line: it's the only benefit that applies directly inside Tesla's own order flow. The eco bonus follows its own administrative path after delivery.

After the order: the bonus process

The Model 3 case: don't wait for a bonus that isn't coming

If you're ordering a Model 3, skip the eco-bonus step: it isn't eligible (it fails the ADEME eco-score) and Tesla's €3 100 maker's discount ended on 1 January 2026. Only the referral applies. Full comparison: Model Y vs Model 3.

The two schemes carry opposite risks, and that is the real reason for the order

The checklist above is sequenced for a reason deeper than convenience. These two benefits settle at opposite ends of the purchase, and each therefore fails in its own way:

• The referral settles before you pay. Its risk is entirely front-loaded: get the sequence wrong and it is gone, permanently, with no appeal. But once the line is in your order summary, nothing that happens afterwards can take it away.
• The bonus settles after delivery. Its risk is entirely back-loaded: nothing you do at the configurator locks it in, because the claim is filed once the car is registered — and the rules that govern your claim are the rules in force at that point, not the ones you read when you ordered.

That second point deserves emphasis, because the bonus écologique has been revised repeatedly — amounts, income brackets, the eco-score threshold and the eligible-versions list have all moved. A delivery that slips by a quarter can therefore land your claim under a different set of terms than the one you budgeted against. Nobody can tell you in advance whether that will help or hurt; what you can do is avoid treating an estimated bonus as money you already have.

What can actually go wrong between order and payment of the bonus

Assuming your version is on the ADEME list and under both caps, the remaining failure modes are documentary and they are entirely within your control:

• Names and details must match across documents. The claim rests on the invoice and the registration certificate; whoever appears as the buyer on one needs to be the person claiming. Worth settling before ordering if a company, a spouse or a leasing structure is involved.
• Keep the invoice as issued. It is the document that establishes the price actually paid — which is the figure that meets, or misses, the cap.
• Do not wait to file. A claim submitted promptly after registration is judged under terms you can still read. A claim left for months is exposed to exactly the rule changes described above.

None of this touches the referral, which by then is long settled. That asymmetry is worth carrying away from this page: the referral needs your attention for about thirty seconds at the right moment, and the bonus needs it for the whole stretch from order to registration.
