This site regularly gets the same questions about the real cost of charging and how it connects to the referral. Here are honest answers, with a link to the full worked-out maths whenever it already exists on this site.

Do I really need a Supercharging membership to charge?

No. You can Supercharge without a membership: you simply pay the "non-member" rate, shown live in the app right before you plug in. The membership (a few euros a month) lowers that per-kWh rate — worth it mainly if you Supercharge often, far from home. See our page on Supercharging costs for the full breakdown of variables.

Is charging at home really cheaper than Supercharging?

In most cases, yes: a home outlet or wallbox uses your own electricity rate, generally lower than the Supercharger "non-member" rate. We don't publish a guaranteed national figure for your personal electricity contract — compare your own rate against the live Supercharger price in the app to decide.

Do the referral's 1,000 free Supercharging km expire?

As of this page's verification date, we haven't found a published expiry date from Tesla for the km given to the referred buyer. That's different from the referrer's credits, valid for roughly 12 months. If you're unsure about your own balance, check it directly in the Tesla app or with Tesla support rather than trusting an unconfirmed figure found elsewhere.

Does the price shown in the app really swing as much as people say?

Yes. The same Supercharger can show a different rate depending on the time and demand (demand-based pricing). That's exactly why we never publish one fixed national rate — only a dated working assumption (€0.42/kWh), set out in our dedicated page.

If I mostly charge at home, does the km-vs-euros choice change?

The choice between 1000 km of Supercharging and €250 off stays open regardless of your habits. But its practical value changes: if you rarely Supercharge, those km risk sitting unused while the €250 is deducted immediately at order. The full maths is in our worked example.

Does the €99/month FSD subscription have anything to do with charging cost?

None at all. They're two completely separate expenses: FSD (supervised) is a software subscription launched in France on 22 May 2026, unrelated to electricity pricing or the referral. A lot of messages this site gets mix the two up — see our FSD explainer to clear it up.

Can I trust a site that quotes one fixed, guaranteed Supercharger rate?

Be careful. No fixed national rate exists: price varies by station and time slot, visible live only in the app. A site that publishes a single figure without dating it or flagging it as an assumption is either wrong, or copying a number from another market.

Should I sort out charging before clicking the referral link?
